As a young boy growing up in Southwest Idaho I loved painting wildlife landscapes. Such scenes as horses running through pastoral fields, eagles in flight or the old west cowboy were my favorites. While it was painting by the numbers it nevertheless created a passion and love for the art of bringing something to life on canvas. It was having the opportunity to grow up in a place that I still believe has the most incredible sunsets in the world that I saw the transforming power of light. Fields and pastures that on any other day looked normal and uninspiring were suddenly transformed by the deep magentas and yellows of the setting sunlight into landscapes only seen in the movies.
The visions of how light could transform a subject stayed with me through the years. I pursued the path of a cinematographer in the film industry so I could apply what I felt to what I wanted to see. While working in the film and video industry during the 80's and 90's I became involved with paint systems in the digital world. It was the cutting edge of very expensive equipment and software that was pre Photoshop or Painter. And I was privileged enough to work with these systems and the artists who mastered them.
From those days until now I have used cameras, the computer canvas, software and pen to paint images that that I saw in my mind as a young boy. Creating these images has been and continues to be a joy to me. Hopefully, they will be a source of pleasure to you. Randal Warren |
